Setting Up Voice Mail

Solution

From your home phone, dial *298 or dial the 10-digit home phone number.


Result: You will hear a voice prompt that will guide you through the steps for creating a voice mailbox where callers can leave voice messages for you.


Troubleshooting: If you do not hear the voice prompt, you may have Caller ID Block turned ON. It must be turned OFF for this procedure. Lift the handset and press *82. This turns OFF Caller ID Block while you activate voice mail, then turns it back ON for you once you've completed the steps below.

Select one of the following preferred languages.

  • Press 1 for voice prompts in U.S. English.
  • Press 2 for voice prompts in Spanish.

Press 1 to proceed with your selected language.


Note: You can press 2 to change the language, then press 1 to proceed.

When the voice prompt states, "We gave you a default PIN, now you'll create a new PIN.", follow these steps:
 
Note: The default PIN is 269266.
 

  1. Enter a PIN number you want to use to access voice messages.

    Note: Choose a PIN number between 4 and 8 digits long, then press the # key.
     
  2. Enter the PIN again, and press #.

  1. When prompted, record a name you want callers to hear when leaving a voice message. Alternatively, you can record one of the following:
    • The phone number
    • Nothing for two seconds
       
      Result: The computer voice will say, "The person you are calling, [your recorded name, phone number, or blank], is not available. Please leave a message after the tone."

  2. Press the # key.
  3. Press 1 to save and continue.

Use the table below to select the default greeting from Step 5, or record and select a more personal greeting for the mailbox to work.

If using...Then...
The default greetingFollow the voice prompts.
A personal greeting
  1. Press 2 to record a personal greeting.
     
    Notes:
    • This is the greeting callers will hear instead of the recorded name.
    • The greeting could be something as simple as, "We are unable to answer the phone right now. Please leave a message."
  2. Press #.
  3. Press 1.

    Result: The personal greeting will now play instead of your recorded name.


As soon as you select either the default or personal greeting, the voice mailbox will be activated immediately and ready for you to use.


Note: If you use the Voice Tools application on www.cox.com or the Cox Connect on a smartphone, be sure to verify your email address is correct in those applications when setting up the Readable Voice Mail feature. You can add up to five email addresses to receive notifications regarding voice mail. For more information, see Activating Readable Voice Mail.
