About Interactive Ads on Your TV

Summary
This information explains interactive ads on your TV.
Solution
Interactive program ads are banners that are displayed on the top or bottom third of a TV screen during a commercial or infomercial. The ad content relates to the content of the commercial or infomercial. You can use your remote control to respond to the ad and request free information or samples.
Cox Communications does not run the ads. They are used by advertisers to promote products or services shown in the ads.
The following images show the type of ads you see during 30– or 60– second commercials or infomercials.
The banner ad is displayed within the first five seconds after the ad starts playing on TV. If you tune to the commercial within the first eight seconds after it has started, the ad still displays. If more than eight seconds of the commercial has passed, the ad does not display.
Accepting an Offer for Free Information or Sample
The first screen offers a chance for you to indicate interest in the product or to decline to see the ad.

You use the second screen to confirm that you are interested, and you agree to share your household information, so the free information or sample can be shipped to you.

After you confirm or agree that you want to receive the information or sample, your household name and address are forwarded to a company that fulfills orders. The household name and address are based on your service address with Cox Communications.
After you place the order, you see a third banner thanking you for your request and confirming that it has been sent.

You should receive the order by U.S. Postal Service within 15 days of the date you request it. The fulfillment company destroys your ordering information 45 days after the ad has stopped running on TV. Your household information is retained only in case your order needs to be verified, and it is not provided or sold to any other company.
Refusing an Offer for Free Information or Sample
If you do not wish to accept the offer, do one of the following:
- Select the No button on the ad by pressing the right arrow button on the remote and pressing Select.
- Select the Exit button on the remote ad by pressing the right arrow button on the remote and pressing Select.
- Press the Exit button on the remote.
- Press the Menu button on the remote.
- Press the Channel Up or Channel Down button on the remote to tune away from the channel with the ad.
- Allow the ad to time out after 10 seconds of inactivity.
Notes:
- The ad is automatically removed from the screen before the commercial ends.
- You can choose to prevent the ads from displaying for any commercial or infomercial. For more information, refer to How to Turn Off Interactive Ads on Your TV With DVR or How to Turn Off Interactive Ads on Your TV With Digital Receiver.
Other Ads That Are Not Interactive Ads
You may see other ads, such as the ones displayed at the bottom of the interactive program guide. You use the program guide ads to go directly to information about a program as well as options to start viewing the program or record it to your DVR. These ads are available as shortcuts for specific programs. They are not the interactive ads you use to order information or free samples about products shown in commercials or infomercials.
The banner ads you see are interactive features that allow you to interact with ad content by requesting an offer or additional information for an offer shown in a commercial.
If it has been 15 days since you requested the offer and you have not received it, we can request that another offer be sent to you.
We cannot send out offers directly; you must request them by using your remote control and placing the request through the ad.
Yes, pressing the Exit button on your remote immediately removes the ad banner from your screen, or it will automatically be removed after 8 seconds.
Or, you can press the MENU button twice to open the General Settings menu; then, in the My Preferences category find the Enhanced TV Apps. From there, you can turn ON and OFF the interactive ads.
Note: The static ads that display inside the Guide itself are embedded and cannot be turned off.

It depends on the particular offer you are requesting. The advertiser sets the policy regarding how many offers may be distributed to an individual. Many allow only one offer per household.
No, they should not appear on your DVR recordings.
After you request additional information and then confirm your initial request, your name and address are provided to the company that fulfills your request. Your name and address may be used only for the one-time fulfillment of your request, unless there is another communication that you initiate with the advertiser. Your name and address are permanently removed from the fulfillment company‘s systems when the advertising campaign ends. We do not disclose your name and address to advertisers.
