How do I set up my firewall?
You will need to access System Preferences to begin. You can do this one of two ways:
- On the bottom menu bar, click the System Preferences icon or;
- from the Apple drop-down menu choose System Preferences.
- Click the Firewall tab.
- Click the gold lock icon at the lower left of the dialog box.
You must have an administrator user name and password set up before you can release the lock icon and proceed to the firewall settings.
- To enable a firewall click the Start button. Next, click Advanced to choose your options. Now click OK.
- To disable a firewall click the Stop button.
How do I turn on FileVault to secure my private documents?
You must be the administrator on this computer with a user name and password to access FileVault. Some highly-partitioned disk configurations such as RAID will not work with FileVault.
You will need to access System Preferences to begin. You can do this one of two ways:
- On the bottom menu bar, click the System Preferences icon or;
- from the Apple drop-down menu choose System Preferences.
Click Turn on FileVault.
If the computer has multiple accounts a list of accounts appears. See the Apple support link at the start of this article for further details on managing user accounts.
- Once on the FileVault page your recovery key should display. This is a set of letters and/or numbers.
- Copy the recovery key and store it in a safe place.
- If the recovery key is hidden, click Show Recovery Key. You may want to choose additional options to store your recovery key. Again, see the Apple support link at the start of this article for further details.
Click Continue then click Restart to activate your security settings.
It may take some time for the security changes to configure if there is a large amount of data stored on your hard drive.
