Quick Fixes for Audio Problems

|No Audio||MUTE button on the remote was pressed.||Press the MUTE button once. If audio does not return, press MUTE again to return it to its original status.|
|Loose audio cables.||Make sure loosened audio cables are plugged in.|
|Auxiliary audio equipment is set up incorrectly.||Make sure the equipment is turned on, volume turned up, and connected or switched to either the TV, cable box, DVD, or VCR. Review connection diagrams that came with the equipment.|
|Buzzing Audio||Wrong device button on remote control was pressed.||Press each of the device buttons only once, beginning with CBL (then TV, VCR or DVD, then AUX). If buzzing did not stop, press the Power button on the remote to turn off then back on the system.|
|Distorted audio||Audio cables are damaged.||Replace audio cables.|
|Speakers are damaged.||Replace speakers.|
|Skipping audio.||Cable box needs to reboot.||Reboot the cable box by unplugging the power cord, waiting 10 seconds, and plugging it back in. The program guide data will be missing for 15 to 30 minutes.|
|No audio from the center or surround speakers of a Home Theater receiver connected to the cable box.||Not all programs feature full surround sound. In some cases, the programs may only contain left and right audio channels.||This is normal operation. No fix needed.|
No Audio on Local Channels
If you have audio on most channels, but have silence on some or all of your local network channels, you may have the Secondary Audio Programming (SAP) turned ON.
To Turn OFF the SAP on your cable box:
- Press the Settings or MENU button on the digital remote. Result: The Settings screen displays.
- Choose from the following options:
If... Then... Disable SAP displays Press the Select button. Choose SAP Language displays Use the left or right arrow buttons to choose the English setting and press Select. PREFERENCES displays Scroll to the Language option, select Audio, then select the option labeled Primary or the one labeled English.
- Your audio should return.
If the above quick fix doesn't work, there may be a problem with MTS, Stereo or another SAP issue. Try the following:
- Verify in the program listing guide that the program has MTS, Stereo or SAP features.
- Check to see if the MTS, STEREO or SAP light on the TV or VCR is on.
If the light is not on, push the "MTS", "STEREO" or "SAP" button on the TV or VCR.
- Adjust the fine tuning on the TV set to restore the stereo or SAP.
Low Audio Level on Premium Channels
If you are experiencing decreased audio on some premium channels, or you are having difficulty hearing the dialogue, however the background sounds come through clearly, the "Audio: Range" is out of adjustment.
- To correct this, follow these steps:
- Press the SETTINGS button twice.
- Locate Audio: Range in the menu.
If... Then... You would like the best audio quality. Choose the Narrow option. You have a stereo audio system connected. Choose Normal or Wide.
Not all programs are compatible with the Wide setting, so the volume may appear to be washed out or too low to hear without turning the volume up extremely high.
Poor Audio Quality
Try the following fixes for issues with poor audio quality:
- Check the Music Choice or DMX digital light indicator:
- If it blinks, check all connections from the wall to the MC or DMX converter.
- If the light is solid, check all audio connections from the MC or DMX converter, through the stereo and out to the speakers.
- Check to see if there are worn selector switches, volume knobs, or tone controls as these can cause poor audio quality.

Static/Buzzing in Audio
If you hear a static type sound, or buzzing in the audio while you watch a program, the audio settings between your TV and the cable box may not be set within the optimal quality range. You can correct these settings by doing the following:
- Using the volume control buttons on the TV, turn the volume all the way down to 0.
- Using the volume controls on the cable box, turn up the volume until it is at it's maximum.
- Using the TV's volume controls again; raise the volume to a comfortable level.
