Summary

Turn on the Sleep Timer and then select the number of minutes until the cable box automatically turns off.

Solution

The following steps automatically turn off the cable box after the specified number of minutes. The countdown begins immediately after you select the number of minutes and then press the EXIT button.

These steps work for a standard or HD cable box, not a cable box that is providing DVR service.

From Quick Settings

  1. Press the SETTINGS button.
  2. Scroll to Activate Sleep Timer.
  3. Select Yes.
  4. Press left arrow to cycle through number of minutes, and select either 5, 10, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, or 90 minutes.
  5. Press EXIT

From General Settings

  1. Press SETTINGS button, then the A button.
  2. Scroll to the Timers section.
  3. Scroll to Sleep Timer and press SELECT.
  4. Press the right arrow to select ON.
  5. Press the right arrow again.
  6. Scroll to the number of minutes desired (5, 10, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, or 90) and press SELECT.
  7. Press EXIT.

Turn off the TV too

To have the TV turn off along with the cable box, plug the TV power cord into the AC outlet on the back of the cable box. Then complete these steps:

  1. Press the SETTINGS button, then the A button.
  2. Scroll to Accessories
  3. Select AC Outlet Use
  4. Select Always On, or On with Settop
  5. Press SELECT
  6. Press EXIT.
