Set Up the Telephone to Call You If Someone Leaves a Voice Mail 

If someone leaves a message on your home phone, make sure you're notified. 

How it works. Use the steps below to enter a phone number where you can be reached -- such as a cell or work number -- and then turn on the "outdial notification" feature and schedule delivery. That way, your cell or work number will ring with a message that voice mail is waiting on your home phone. 

Listening to the voice mail. To listen to that voice mail, do not hang up. Rather press *5 and then enter your PIN followed by the # key to access the voice mail. Or you can wait and dial your voice mail number when it's more convenient.

Access the Notification Menu

  1. Dial your telephone voice mail (*298). 
  2. Enter your PIN followed by the # key.
  3. Press 44 to access the Notifications Menu.

Enter the number where you can be reached

  1. Press 2 to access the "outdial" number prompt.
  2. Enter the phone number where you can be reached, beginning with the area code. 
  3. Listen and confirm that the number entered is correct. 
  4. Either:
    • Press 1 if the number is correct
    • Press 2 if the number is incorrect, and then enter the desired number.

Note: You can change your outdial phone number at any time by completing steps 1 and 2 again.

Important: Returning long-distance phone calls using Cox Voice Mail functionality will result in Cox long-distance charges being assessed, including calls made from customers with Toll Restrictions on their Cox account.

Turn ON the "outdial notification" feature

After entering your outdial phone number, turn ON the "outdial notification" feature.

To turn ON for the first time:

  1. Press 121.

    Result: The "outdial notification" turns ON. (The default setting is OFF.)
  2. Press *2  to access the Schedule Notifications menu. 

To turn OFF: Press 4412 from the Main Menu and follow the prompt to turn OFF the outdial feature. Note: Turning OFF outdial does not delete any outdial settings you've entered.

To turn ON again: Press 4412 from the Main Menu and follow the prompt the turn ON the outdial feature again. The previously selected outdial settings are turned ON.

Schedule notifications, add an additional number

After turning ON the outdial function, schedule the notifications to arrive at a time that is convenient for you.

  1. Press 51 to access the Schedule Notification Outdial Menu.
  2. Either:
    • Press 1 to schedule messages marked "urgent."  Then either:
      • Press 1 to use the default number previously entered.
      • Press 2 to add and use a different number. This number does not delete the default number.
    •  Press 2 to schedule normal messages. Then either:
      • Press 1 to use the default number previously entered.
      • Press 2 to add and use a different number. This number does not delete the default number.
  3. Follow the prompts to select the time and day when the notifications for either urgent or normal messages can be sent to you. 
    1. First select the days to receive notifications (from 1 through 7, e.g. from Monday through Sunday). You can select one, some, or all seven days. 
    2. Then select the timeframe within which to receive notifications. Begin with the start time (the hour: 1-12; minute: at 15-min increments; and either a.m. or p.m.) and then select the end time. 
  4. Repeat steps b and c if you're setting up different settings for "urgent" and "normal" voice mail messages.

 

Shortcuts

After completing the steps above, you can use the following shortcuts from the Main Menu to change your settings at any time.

  • 442 - change the default phone number where you can be reached
  • 4412 - to turn ON or OFF the outdial feature
  • 4451 - to change the delivery schedules for notifications that normal and urgent voice messages are waiting. 

Note: You can set up a maximum of two different delivery schedules: one for the default phone number and one for the additional phone number set up in step 4.b.
