Summary

Connection Optimizer is an easy to use tool that customers can use to optimize an Internet connection by changing the registry settings in Windows.

Solution

TCP is the main protocol used in an IP network. The TCP optimizer changes the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) and TCP Receive Window (RWIN) values. Optimizing these settings reduces latency by increasing the amount of data that can be transferred over the network. In addition to optimizing your settings, you are able to return to the registry settings prior to using the tool.

Eligibility Requirements

To use the Connection Optimizer, you must:

  • Subscribe to Ultimate Internet service, only available in limited markets
  • Have Windows XP operating system
  • Have Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher browser and ActiveX
  • Be logged in to the computer with administrative rights

Run the Connection Optimizer

The Connection Optimizer can be accessed by logging into Internet Tools then clicking the Optimize Now link.
