What is Cox phone service? Cox phone is the same primary line telephone service you've known for years inside your home. Cox owns and operates a privately managed network to send and receive calls.

How does Cox phone service work? Your phone service will have access to 411, 611 and 911 service. And your service will work with a home alarm system, just as it does with the inside wiring of your home. Whenever possible, we'll switch your phone number - so you keep the number everyone knows. When your service includes a modem, it comes with a battery backup. In case your power goes out, you phone service will work up to eight additional hours on battery.

Why choose Cox phone? Cox phone saves you more money versus the old phone company. With more than 2.5 million Cox phone customers, more people chose Cox in the past year than your other local phone company.
  • Directory Assistance
Directory Assistance. Dial 411 with either a name or an address, either local or long distance, and get the phone number you need. You can get two numbers per each directory assistance call.
  • 911
    911. Emergency service is an absolute, critical must and Cox phone service connects to 911 services just like the phone company. In the instance where we install a telephone modem device with service, you're still safely connected. You just need to know that your physical address is recorded to that device. So bring it back to Cox in the event that you want to move it to another location.
  • 611
    611. Forget our phone number. With Cox phone service, if you need us for anything, just dial 611. You'll be connected to our 24/7 customer support help line.
  • Operator Assistance
Operator Assistance. 24/7 there is an operator available to assist you with making your calls – be it person-to-person or even collect. Just press 0 from your home phone or after using a Cox calling card. Low call rates are added to the regular call price for using this service.
  • TTY compliant
TTY equipment compliant. If you use additional equipment for hearing special needs, our service works for many of the devices currently available. We'll make sure the service works or we will refund any of the charges associated with setup and installation.
  • Lifeline service
Lifeline service. Respecting the need for access to phone services when the cost is a hardship, we offer lifeline phone service, in cooperation with the public utilities commission. Please contact us for details of this service.

Truth in pricing – those extra fees.  You've seen everyone disclaim their prices don't include taxes, surcharges, and fees. Our lawyers make us do it, too. We have a couple charges that we want you to know about, to help you understand your total phone price. We'd love to give you a flat rate, but they just can't be calculated that way.

Government mandated taxes: Your local and state sales taxes are applied to phone service. In addition, there is a local tax of 1%, which is used as the government determines but is typically to fund e911 operations. State and federal taxes are 3% and are imposed on all telecommunications services, including local, long distance and wireless bills.

A FCC Universal Service Fund fee is charged on out-of-state and International calls. This rate varies by quarter and is currently 11.3%. And lastly, there is an FCC Access Fee charge of $6.50 per line.

We have telecommunications fees just like the rest. You know what they say about taxes!? We just wanted you to know what the charges might look like.
