Summary

You can receive local HD broadcast channels for free over the air using an antenna using the steps below.

Solution

As of June 12th, 2009 all local over-the-air televisions stations now broadcast in a digital format. If you have a standard definition television without a digital tuner, you will need to use a adapter. For more information, see dtv.gov.

1

Using a coaxial cable, connect your antenna to the RF input on the back of your television.

2

On your television, find the input selection for antenna and select the option to scan for channels.

Note: The process for scanning for channels is unique for each manufacturer. Consult your user manual for more details.

You will now be able to view local broadcast programming in HD. To view the channels not offered on broadcast TV, select the appropriate input on your TV that your Cox cable box is connected to.
