Cox does not support all email clients.The following is for reference only. For more help using Windows Mail or Outlook, visit Microsoft support.

 

Windows 8 Mail does not support email accounts that use POP. To access your Cox.net email you can go online to WebMail. To access it using Windows 8, see Set Up Cox.net Email in Windows 8 Using Thunderbird.
If you have Windows 7 you can download Windows Live Mail or if you installed Office 2007 to 2010, you can use the Outlook email client. For more information see Microsoft support.

How do I set up an Outlook account?

To begin, click the Start button then click the Email Outlook button to open Outlook.

  1. In Windows XP, under Email check  Add a new email account then click Next
  2. In Outlook 2007, choose Tools then Accounts.
  3. In Outlook 2010, choose File then Info, then Add Account.

Note: Outlook 2010 will attempt to automatically configure your email account; if it fails, continue to step 3. See the Microsoft support link at the start of this article for more information.

For Windows XP:

  1. Under Incoming server information choose POP from the drop-down menu.
  2. Under Server address enter pop.cox.net for Cox.net email. 
  3. The setting should be 110 while on the Cox network.
    Note: The secure setting 995 should always be used when not on the Cox network; when using this setting check the box for SSL.

For Windows 7:

  1. Click manually configure server settings or additional server types.
  2. Click Next and choose Internet Mail.
  3. In the fields provided enter your name and your full email address, such as yourname@cox.net.
  4. Under server information choose POP3 from the drop-down menu.
  5. Next to Incoming server enter pop.cox.net for Cox.net email. 
  6. Next to Outgoing server enter smtp.cox.net for Cox.net email.
  7. Enter your user name and password.

For Windows XP:

  1. Under Outgoing server information enter SMTP.
  2. Under Server address enter smtp.cox.net for Cox.net email.
  3. The setting should be 25.
    Note: Use the setting 465 when accessing email on the Cox network. This provides a secure setting. Check the box my server requires authentication and the box this server requires a secure connection SSL.
  4. Click OK.

For Windows 7:

  1. Click More Settings.
  2. The incoming server setting should be 110.
    Note: Use the secure setting 995 when not on the Cox network; when using this setting check the box for SSL.
  3. The outgoing server setting should be 25.
    Note: Use the secure setting 465 when accessing email on the Cox network. Check the box my server requires authentication and the box this server requires a secure connection SSL.
  4. Click OK.

Click Next then click Finish

For Windows 7:

Click Finish.

 

How do I set up Vista Mail?

  1. Click the Start button, then All Programs, then Windows Mail.
  2. Click Tools then Accounts.

  2. Click Email Account then click Next.

Enter a Display Name, if desired, then click Next.

Enter your full Email Address, such as yourname@cox.net, then click Next.

  1. Under Incoming email server type choose POP3 from the drop-down menu.
  2. Under incoming mail server enter pop.cox.net for Cox.net email.
  3. Under outgoing email server (SMTP) name enter smtp.cox.net while on the Cox network.
  4. Click the Advanced tab then enter 25.
    Note: The secure setting 465 should be used when not on the Cox network. Check the box my server requires authentication and the box this server requires a secure connection SSL.
  5. Enter 110 next to Incoming mail.
    Note: The secure setting 995 should be used when not on the Cox network.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Enter your email User name and Password then click Next.
  8. Click Finish.
    Note: You may need to restart your computer for the changes to take affect.

How do I set up a Live Mail account?

Once you have downloaded Live Mail, do the following:

  1. Open Live Mail.
  2. From the File menu choose Options then choose Email Account
  3. Click Add.
  4. Click Next.

  1. Enter your full Email address, such as yourname@cox.net, and your Password. Add a Display name for sent messages, if desired.
  2. Check Manually configure server settings.
  3. Click Next.

  1. Under Incoming server information choose POP from the drop-down menu.
  2. Under Server address enter pop.cox.net for Cox.net email. 
  3. Under Port enter 110
    Note: Use the secure setting 995 when not on the Cox network and check the box below.

  1. Under Outgoing server information enter SMTP.
  2. Under Port enter 25.
    Note: Use the secure setting 465 when accessing email on the Cox network. This provides a secure setting. If available, check the two boxes below for authentication and SSL.

Click Next then click Finish
