Before You Begin

When you first enter the HTML Editor mode, you may notice similar icons on the top half of the menu bar as are found in most text editors, such as header sizes (under the "p" dropdown) and font style (under the "Default" dropdown). But there are 14 other icons on the bottom half of the menu bar in the HTML Editor mode:

This icon allows you to cut a word or sentence from your message.
This icon allows you to copy a word or sentence to another location in your message.
This icon allows you to paste a word or sentence that you copied or cut.
This icon allows you to bold a word or sentence.
This icon allows you to italicize a word or sentence.
This icon allows you to underline a word or sentence.
This icon allows you to strikethrough a word or sentence, as in editing.
This icon allows you to add a superscript, as in an algebraic term.
This icon allows you to add a subscript, as in a footnote.
This icon allows you to add color to your text.
This icon allows you to add a fill (background) color to your message.
This icon allows you to add Internet links to your message.
This icon allows you to add a smiley face to your messages.
This icon allows you to add a signature at the end of your message.

Composing a Message Using the HTML Editor

  1. From the WebMail Inbox window, click Compose.

    Result: The Compose Mail window displays.
     
  2. To type the message using HTML, click HTML Editor.

    Note: When HTML is clicked, it may take a few seconds for the Java applet to load. A coffee cup in the upper left corner of the grey window displays.

  3. In the text field, compose the message.

    Note: The HTML Editor allows you to format your email messages using tools similar to those provided in a word processing application, such as Microsoft Word. Formatting includes changing font style, font size, aligning text, and using super or sub scripts. 

  4. Enter an email address in the To: field.

    Note: You can also enter addresses in the Bcc: (blind copy) and CC: (carbon copy) fields. Email can be entered manually or selected from Addresses

  5. To select an address from Addresses, click To: .

    Result: The Addresses pop-up window displays.

  6. Find an address by clicking the alphabet groupings or the arrows. 
  7. Choose an address by clicking an envelope under the appropriate column, as shown below.

  8. When finished, click Close.

    Result: The Compose Mail window reappears and the chosen email address shows up in the appropriate field.  

  9. To return to using plain text, click Plain.

Automatically Composing in the HTML Editor

  1. From the WebMail Inbox window, click Settings.

    Result: The Message Settings window displays.  

  2. Click Preferences.

     

  3. Click the By default, compose messages using the graphical editor checkbox.
  4. Click OK.

Changing Font Size and Colors

  1. Open and compose a message using the HTML Editor.
  2. Highlight the text to change.

  3. Select the option to change.
    • To change Font Size, from the Editor menu, click the Font Size drop-down menu and select a new font size.
      Note: You cannot set a default font in the editor.
    • To change Font Color, from the Editor menu, click the Change Text Color icon, then click the desired color in the color palette and click OK.

      Note: The HSB and RGB tabs allow more customized color creation.

Changing the Background Color of a Message

  1. In the HTML Editor mode, compose a message.
  2. Click the Change Fill Color icon.

    Result: The Choose Color window displays. 

  3. Choose a color from the color palette.

    Note: Under Preview, the color displays.
     
  4. Click OK.

    Result: The background of the message changes color.

    Note: To get back to white, choose the white color square in the palette.

All steps complete.

Adding Links to a Message

  1. In the HTML Editor mode, place the cursor in the message where the link is to be inserted.
  2. Click the Insert Link icon.

    Result: The Insert Link window displays.  

  3. Enter the URL to link in the message.
  4. Click OK.
