Cox WiFi provides access via Wi-Fi hotspots to Cox High Speed Internet (CHSI) customers with Preferred, Preferred Plus (Northern Virginia only), Premier, or Ultimate packages at no additional charge. It is currently only available in our Connecticut and Northern Virginia (NoVA) markets.
Cox customers on the following package of service will be able to access Cox WiFi service at hundreds of Hotspots in the Connecticut and Northern Virginia, (NoVA) markets:
- Internet Preferred
- Internet Preferred Plus, (NoVA only)
- Internet Premier
- Internet Ultimate
Customers on the following packages of service can upgrade to take advantage of Cox WiFi service:
- Internet Essential
- Internet Starter
With Cox WiFi, you can receive download speeds of up to 15Mbps and upload speeds of 4Mbps. The speeds can vary and is dependent on the number of devices connected to the access point at any given time.
Access and Use
Cox WiFi has outdoor hotspots available. Please refer to www.cox.com/wifi for more details and a coverage map.
With Cox WiFi, you can connect all devices that are Wi-Fi enabled. This includes laptops, tablets and smartphones.
With Cox WiFi, three (3) devices can be attached per user ID and ten (10) per account at a time.
Yes; with each Cox High Speed Internet account, you can have up to ten (10) unique devices. Up to three (3) devices can be connected per User ID.
Once customers are in an area where they can receive the Cox WiFi service, they should see the “CoxWiFi” network location (SSID) in the list of available wireless networks on their wireless device. Customers must use their Cox credentials, (i.e., Cox user ID and password), to log in to Cox WiFi Service. Once authenticated, they will be able to browse the Internet as they would from home.
Cox WiFi is available in select areas within the Cox service footprint.
Note: Cox is planning to expand the coverage available to our customers in the near future.
Cox will recognize your device on any Hotspot you have used within the last 180 days. For your security, you will be asked to sign in again to verify your username and password at least once every 180 days per hotspot, or if you access Cox WiFi on a different device.
While Cox makes reasonable efforts to provide a secure service, because the service is provided via wireless, we strongly recommend you ensure that any devices connected to the service have properly installed anti-virus / anti-malware solutions and that your operating system firewall is turned on to provide additional protection. Cox cannot guarantee absolute security through Cox WiFi.

If you are signed in to Cox WiFi and wish to disconnect, you will need to temporarily disable WiFi on your wireless device and wait for approximately 15 minutes. WiFi can usually be disabled and re-enabled by using a menu option or key press combination. Details vary depending on the type of device you are using, so consult the device manufacturer's documentation for more information.
Note: Cox WiFi will “remember” your device for the next 180 days, so the next time you connect during that timeframe your device will automatically connect to CoxWiFi.
