How do I make my favorite search engine the one that I always use?

Click the three horizontal lines to the right side of the browser address field.

Click Settings

Under Search, click Manage Search Engines.

  1. Choose a search engine from the list. Click Make Default.
  2. To make Chrome your default, scroll down to Default Browser choose Make Google Chrome my default browser.

How do I perform the five (5) search methods?

Tab to search:

  1. Start typing the web address you want to search. If Chrome has a record of the site, it will automatically offer the option to search that site. 
  2. Press tab to choose the search engine, type the search term then press Enter.

Search a page:

  1. Use the find bar to locate a specific word or term on the page you are viewing.
  2. Press the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl +F to bring up the find bar on the page.

        Note: For Mac the shortcut is Apple-F.

Right-click search:

  1. Use your cursor to highlight any text on a web page.
  2. Right-click and select the option to do a search on the highlighted text.

On a Mac use control-click.

Paste and search:

Use your cursor to highlight any text on the web page and copy it.

Right-click the address bar and select Paste and search.

On a Mac use control-click.

Highlight and drag search for PC only

  1. Use your cursor to highlight any text on the web page.
  2. Drag the text to the address bar.

Chrome automatically displays the search results from your default search engine for the highlighted text. 

How do I set up and use Chrome Instant?

Click the three horizontal lines to the right side of the browser address field.

Click Options on a PC. Preferences or Settings on a Mac.

Scroll down to Search.

Under Search put a check in the Enable Instant for faster searching box to enable or disable the feature.

Enter search terms in the address bar. As you type, items from your browsing and search history that match what you are typing should show up in a menu below the address bar.

If you don't see results it could be due to either a slow connection speed, the type of search you performed or you are using the Incognito window, which does not work with Instant.

How do I use the Incognito window to search in privacy?

Click the three horizontal lines to the right side of the browser address field.

Click New Incognito window and a new window with a spy figure icon displays in the upper left corner of the browser. Browse as normal. The sites you visit will not show up in cookies or browser history.
