After the cable modem has successfully registered on the network, the Power, Receive, Send, and Online indicators illuminate continuously to indicate that the cable modem is online and fully operational. For more details, refer to the Modem Lights section.

There are two models of the Motorola SB5101
The Motorola SB5101N has the following ports available on the back of the modem:
- ETHERNET - Connects to the Ethernet port on your computer.
- CABLE - Connects to the cable wall outlet.
- POWER - Connects the cable modem to the power adapter.
The Motorola SB5101U has the following ports available on the back of the modem:
- ETHERNET - Connects to the Ethernet port on your computer.
- USB - Connects to the USB port on your computer.
- CABLE - Connects to the cable wall outlet.
- POWER - Connects the cable modem to the power adapter.
