Summary

This article provides the steps to use the Linksys® EasyLink Advisor Setup Wizard CD and the Linksys router to install Cox Home Networking service using a Cox supported Windows operating system.

Overview

To begin router installation, the computer should:

  • Be connected to a Cox approved cable modem
  • Have an active Internet connection
  • Have a working CD ROM drive.

When using Windows Vista, additional windows may display. Click Continue when Vista requests permissions throughout the installation process.

Insert the Linksys® EasyLink Advisor Setup Wizard CD into the CD ROM drive.

Result: The CD launches automatically.

Click the Start Setup button.

Result: The Welcome to Linksys® EasyLink Advisor Setup Wizard launches.

Click the Next button.

Result: The License Agreement displays.

Review the information and check the I accept this agreement box, then click the Next button.

Result: The Checking Connection page displays and performs an initial check of the network adapter in the PC. Once complete, a Check Successful message displays.

Click the Next button.

Result: The Install Router Step 1/4 page displays.

Complete the following steps:

  1. Turn off the cable modem.
  2. Unplug the Ethernet cable from the computer.
  3. Plug the Ethernet cable into the yellow port on the back of the router.
  4. Click the Next button.

Result: The Install Router Step 2/4 page displays.

Connect one end of the Ethernet cable included with the router between port one of the router and the Ethernet port on the PC, then click the Next button.

Result: The Install Router Step 3/4 page displays.

Connect the power cord to the Linksys router, then click the Next button.

Note: Do not plug the power cord into the wall at this time.

Result: The Install Router Step 4/4 page displays.

Complete the following steps.

  1. Turn on the cable modem and verify that the modem is operational.
  2. Plug in the power cord of the router into an electrical outlet. 
  3. Click the Next button.

Result: The Linksys EasyLink Advisor Setup Wizard configures and verifies the routers settings. Once complete the Secure Your Router Settings page displays.

In the Router Password field, enter a new router password, then click the Next button.

Note: It is important to change the default router password to prevent unauthorized access to the router administration pages.

Result: The Name Your Wireless Network page displays.

In the Give your wireless network a name (SSID) field, change the default SSID, then click the Next button.

Result: The Secure Your Wireless Network page displays.

Complete the following steps.

  1. Select the Higher Security option.
  2. Either enter a security key or use the randomly-generated security key.
  3. Click the Next button.

Result: The Wi-Fi Protected Setup page displays.

Click the Next button.

Result: The Confirm Settings page displays details about the router configuration.

Select the desired options, then click the Next button.

  • Save the router settings in a text file on the desktop.
  • Print the router details.

Result: A pop-up window displays a confirmation message that the settings have been saved to the desktop.

Click the OK button.

Result: The Linksys EasyLink Advisor Setup Wizard configures the router and saves security and configuration settings, then verifies the router settings. Once complete, the Network Configured Congratulations window displays.

Click the Next button.
