Summary

Learn how to use the Spam button, This is Not Spam Button, and SpamBlocker settings in WebMail.

Solution

Spam is the equivalent of electronic junk mail or any unsolicited email. Totally preventing spam is as difficult as preventing regular junk mail, but WebMail provides a report spam feature to forward spam messages to an abuse center where an attempt will be made to filter the messages in the future.

There are three spam filtering options in WebMail. They are:

  • Delete incoming junk email automatically - this setting will remove junk email before it reaches the Inbox.
  • Deliver junk email to the WebMail Spam folder for later review - this creates a Spam folder and moves spam messages to that folder.
  • Tag junk email with "Spam" - the word "Spam" appears in the subject line and the email is delivered to the Inbox.

You can also move messages out of the Spam folder, into the Inbox using the This is Not Spam button.

1

Report and Delete a Spam Message

  1. Click the checkbox next to the email you want to report as spam.

Note: It is also possible to report spam while the message is open, by clicking the Spam button on the menu bar. However, opening potential spam email is not recommended.

  2. Click the Spam button.

Result: A confirmation message displays asking you to confirm your decision to report the message as spam.

  3. Click OK.

Result: The Read Message window reappears with a message confirming that the email has been reported.

Note: With this option, the spam message is sent to the Trash folder.

All steps complete.

Automatically Filter Spam

  1. At the WebMail Inbox, click Settings.

Result: The Message Settings window displays.

  2. At the Message Settings window, click SpamBlocker Settings.

Result: The SpamBlocker Settings window displays.

  3. At the SpamBlocker Settings window, choose one of the available options, to either delete the incoming spam, place it in the Spam folder, or tag it and receive it in the Inbox.

  4. Click OK.

Note: If the Spam folder option is checked, a folder is automatically created and cannot be renamed or deleted.

All steps complete.

3

Using the 'This Is Not Spam' Button

This button can be used to move a message out of the Spam folder and into the Inbox.

  1. Under My Account, click the Spam button.

    Result: The Spam folder displays.

  2. Put a check in the box next to the email you want to move out of the Spam folder.
  3. Click the This Is Not Spam button.

Result: A pop-up window displays asking if you are sure you want to move this message to the Inbox.

  4. Click OK.

Result: A message displays at the top of the window confirming the email has been moved to the Inbox and a notification sent to the spam center.

All steps complete.
