State Police Keeping Tabs On Sex Offenders

11-06-2009 12:22 AM EST | By ###Gary Cohen/bjn
(Richmond, VA) -- Virginia State Police say they are doing all they can to keep an eye on sexual offenders in the state. The VSP's Sex Offender Investigative Unit is charged with the responsibility of tracking the 16-thousand registered offenders in the state. Questions about how police protect the public from such predators have been raised in light of the national story unfolding in Cleveland, Ohio. People are wondering how nearly a dozen women were raped and strangled in the home of a sex offender without investigators or case workers knowing something was up.
