Flu-Like Sickness Down Across State But H1N1 Deaths Increase

11-06-2009 12:22 AM EST | By ###Gary Cohen/bjn
(Richmond, VA) -- The state health department has mixed news concerning flu-like illness. The department says flu-illness appeared to be down last week but the number of fatalities caused by the H1N1 virus continues to increase. As of Thursday, 21 deaths across the state are being blamed on H1N1. That is four more than was reported earlier in the week. Virginia Health Commissioner Dr. Karen Remley told reporters yesterday the department is beginning to see some some stability in the number of people coming to hospital emergency rooms for H1N1.
