Richmond Charter Changes On Hold

11-03-2009 08:10 AM EST | By ###Ron Edwards/kbr
(Richmond, VA) -- Some city charter issues between then-Mayor L. Douglas Wilder and the City Council will not be resolved by the next General Assembly. The council decided to hold off seeking approval from the state on the controversial changes. They concern who has authority to appoint the city attorney, city auditor, and city assessor. Those positions are currently appointed solely by the council. Mayor Dwight C. Jones would like to have the mayor appoint the city attorney, since most of the office works for the administration. Council President Kathy C. Graziano said the council would proceed with issues the members agree on, and the rest will require more discussion.
