Shooting Victim Target Of Police Sting

11-07-2009 03:37 AM EST | By ###Debbie Totten/dmz
(Lincoln, RI) -- The man shot in the face by a state trooper Friday afternoon, was the target of a police sting operation. The Massachusetts man had a lengthy criminal record and was attempting to purchase a gun from State Trooper Chris Zarrella, who was posing as a criminal. They arranged to meet in Lincoln Woods State Park, where the sell went down. After Zarrella identified himself as an officer, a struggle ensued and the gun went off, hitting the man in the chin, cruising through his throat and coming out his ear. He was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover.
