Two People Charged With Swindling An Elderly Woman

11-04-2009 03:35 AM EST | By ###John Carpilio/psl
(Warren, RI) -- Two people from Warren have been charged with felonies for allegedly swindling several hundred-thousand-dollars from an elderly woman. State police said 62-year-old Jaime Resende, and his wife, 69-year-old Maria Resende had been running errands for the 77-year-old East Bay resident. Investigators said the woman paid the pair large amounts of money. "The Providence Journal" reported the state police investigation was prompted by a complaint by a person with power of attorney for the woman. According to the state police, the Resende's took nearly 361-thousand from the woman between 2007 and this year. The couple was released on 500-thousand-dollars personal recognizance and they are due back in court January 10th.
