Reopening Of MLK Hospital Delayed Again

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Los Angeles County Supervisors indicated Tuesday that the target date for reopening Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital has been pushed back to March, 2013. The "Los Angeles Times" reports the county's health services spokesman Jan Takada blamed several factors for the delay, including the pending agreement with the University of California to partner with the county to reopen the hospital. He said the selection of an architect also took more time than expected. When county supervisors voted to close the hospital to in-patient services in 2007, they promised to reopen it in 2009. Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas said he's still aiming for a 2012 opening.
