Mayor Selects Charles Beck As 55th LAPD Chief

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Deputy Chief Charlie beck has been selected by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to serve as the head of the LAPD. Beck a 32-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department and who has spent much of his career working to reduce gang violence says he's thrilled about his new role. He said he couldn't believe the effort the mayor and his staff made to find the right man. He said he spent two three-hour sessions with the mayor trying to convince Villaraigosa that he should have the job. The Mayor's choice is subject to approval by the City Council. [[ NOTE NATURE ]]
