(Los Angeles, CA) -- A carjacking suspect was shot by LAPD officers after he was cornered following a short chase that ended on Avalon Boulevard near 59th Street Tuesday. Officers spotted the car, believed to have been stolen in Boyle Heights, in South Los Angeles yesterday morning. Three men were in the vehicle. At one point the car stopped and two of the men got out and were immediately arrested. The vehicle then took off and traveled a few more blocks before coming to a stop. At that point the driver opened fire on cops who returned fire, critically wounding the man. Officers weren't sure of his condition so they called in a SWAT team, who used a robot to inspect the car and the condition of the driver. The driver was then removed and taken to a hospital where he is said to be in critical condition.
