(Alexandria, VA) -- There's a bit of controversy surrounding a couple of adult-themed stores in historic Old Town Alexandria. The issue being raised is whether such stores should be allowed in the community. On Thursday, city planners declined to approve a ban on any additional adult businesses. La Tache opened about a year ago and in October a new shop called Lotus Blooms opened for business. The measure under consideration would have forced Lotus Blooms to close after an 18-month period. Area residents have some mixed reactions to the shops with some saying since the city gave them permission to open, they should honor the commitment from an integrity standpoint. Other residents say store mannequins, which are sometimes scantily clad, are not appropriate for kids to see in the front windows. Lotus Blooms says it has moved more adult-themed items away from the front window and public view.
