Maryland Extends Warning Period To Work Zone Speeders

11-03-2009 09:50 AM EST | By ###Doug Parrish/John Domen/dlt WDC)
(Baltimore, MD) -- Motorists who speed through three construction zones in Maryland are getting a break. That's because a 30-day warning period which began when speed cameras were installed last month in two work zones is being extended another two weeks. State officials say the extension allows for the inclusion of a new work zone on I-95 in White Marsh. The other zones are on the Beltway at Charles Street in Baltimore County and I-95 in Prince George's County. Once the warning phase ends, drivers caught going 12 or more miles-per-hour over the speed limit will get a 40 dollar ticket. Since the pilot program began last month, police have issued more than 900 warnings.
