School Partnerships

Cox Nova partners with three are elementary schools on many different projects through the year.  McNair Elementary School in Herndon, Crestwood Elementary School in Springfield and Hugh Mercer Elementary school in Fredericksburg all host Cox Nova employees as mentors for students throughout the year.  In addition to mentorships, Cox employees volunteer their time at the schools to help out at events such as book fairs, science nights and field days.  Cox also brings History Channel’s “Take a Vet to School” program to a different school every year and helped Poe Elementary “Keep Gym in School” through a partnership with the NFL Network.  Students at McNair Elementary design Holiday cards and Holiday tree ornaments for use by Cox.

In September of 2008, Cox Nova partnered with C-SPAN to bring the “Campaign in the Commonwealth” tour to Oakton High School and Potomac High School.  Seniors in each of these high school participated in debates that presented the platforms of the candidates in the 2008 election.  After the debates, the students held mock-elections to determine the winners of the debates.  The process taught the children to become more socially-aware citizens.
