Officers Accused Of Stealing Money From Dead Man

11-06-2009 08:12 AM CST | By ###Todd Dunne/twm
(St. Gabriel, LA) -- Authorities say two St. Gabriel police officers who investigated a fatal traffic accident in August stole money from the man who died in the crash. State police say a tip from the disgruntled girlfriend of one of the officers led to the arrest of 32-year-old Rodrick Wesley, of Bayou Goula, and 23-year-old Keith Snowten, of St. Gabriel. Trooper Russell Graham says while the officers were at the scene of the August 8th accident, Snowten took two-thousand dollars from the wallet of the victim, then gave half the money to Wesley. St. Gabriel Police Chief Kevin Ambeau says he informed State Police of the incident after conducting his own investigation. He says the officers "disgraced the badge" in committing the act. Wesley and Snowten face charges of theft and malfeasance in office.
