Ouachita River Rises

(Monroe, LA) -- Heavy rainfall late last week has prompted a further rise in the Ouachita River, which reached above 46 feet at Monroe Monday. In Union Parish, Lake D'Arbonne crested early afternoon, but officials say the rise in the Ouachita may block the flow of water out of the lake. Sheriff Bob Buckley says the lake level is slowly falling and it's hoped enough water drains out before Bayou D'Arbonne rises high enough to cut off flow from the spillway. Bayou D'Arbonne is a tributary of the Ouachita River. Tensas [[TEN-sah]] Basin levee District Director John Stringer says the river is forecast to crest at 48-point-five feet on November 12th, which would be the fourth-highest level in recorded history.
