Buford School Reopens After Stomach Flu Prompts Closing

11-03-2009 03:30 AM EST | By ###Don Dornberg/ab
(Buford, GA) -- Things returned to normal Monday at Harmony Elementary in Buford after a stomach flu outbreak shut down the school on Friday. Public health department officials recommended that the school close after about 20-percent of the nearly 640 students became ill. Health officials suspect the students and eight teachers came down with gastroenteritis, which causes vomiting and acute diarrhea. The school was completely cleaned and disinfected, with the absentee rate down to six-percent.
