Your Cox Services

Your Digital Identity: Sign In at Cox.com

Your Cox Account

When you sign in to Cox.com, you have access to many tools and services that enrich your online experience, simplify billing and account management, and help protect your computer (and data) from online risks.

But not all users have access to all functions on Cox.com. Why not?

Cox.com offers two types of user accounts, and each has slightly different permissions.

The Account Holder is the primary, unrestricted account that usually belongs to the person who established services with Cox. Account Holders can create secondary accounts attached to this primary account, called Authorized User IDs.

For example, let’s say that Mary, Jim and their son, Tom, move into a new house. Mary calls Cox to establish Internet and Advanced TV service. After the installer sets everything up, Mary logs in and creates her Cox.com ID. Then, she creates IDs for Jim and Tom. Mary is the Account Holder, while Jim and Tom are Authorized Users.

So what’s the difference?

Most of the differences revolve around your data’s security and the ability to purchase items like pay-per-view movies. For instance, in the Interactive Bill tool, only Account Holders can view statements or see recent activity, including recently purchased pay-per-view items. Authorized Users are able to view the bill amount and make payments. This keeps your private information private, but gives a trusted friend, neighbor or family member limited access so they can make payments.

For example, let’s say that Mary and Jim decide to spend part of the summer with relatives, and Tom comes home from college to work for the summer. As an Authorized User, Tom can pay the bill while Mary and Jim are away, but he can’t see his parents’ payment history or recent activity.

In some instances, our partner companies have created restrictions. For example, Cox Advanced TV subscribers who access Cox TV Online can find most partner content whether they’re Account Holders or Authorized Users, but HBO GO and MAX GO content is only available to Account Holders. This means that, as an Account Holder, you have access to all content from subscribed premium channels, but other users (like your kids) don’t.

With two account types, Cox customers can count on us to protect their personal data and their pocketbooks. And whether you’re an Account Holder or an Authorized User, you can take advantage of the many tools and resources available to Cox customers through Cox.com.
