Flags Ordered To Half Staff Following Death Of Former Kansas Governor

(Topeka, KS) -- Flags across Kansas have been ordered to fly at half-staff from now until sundown November 14th in recognition of the death of former Kansas Governor William H. Avery. A Wakefield native, Avery served in the Kansas House of Representatives followed by ten years in Congress before being elected the 37th governor of Kansas in 1964. He served one term as governor, losing a re-election bid. Avery was 98-years-old.
