(Baton Rouge, LA) -- Mourners gathered at the state capitol Monday to pay their final respects to former Governor Dave Treen, who died last Thursday at the age of 81. Family, friends and politicians were among those who sat in the capitol rotunda where the American flag-draped casket was placed. Governor Jindal was one of those who delivered eulogies for Treen, saying the former governor "lived to serve others" and inspired people to live up to their ideals. Others remembered Treen as a statesman, and a man who preferred to take the high road during a campaign and refused to say negative things about an opponent. Treen, who was Louisiana's first GOP governor since reconstruction, also served five terms in Congress, representing the state's Third District.
