American Red Cross Laying Off 22

11-07-2009 03:47 AM EST | By ###Rebecca Manriquez/ddw
(Hartford, CT) -- The Connecticut branch of the American Red Cross announced yesterday they will be laying off 22 people. The organization says the layoffs are needed because of the declining blood donations. The local union says the layoffs are putting people's safety at risk. They have been trying to negotiate a contract since April and say the layoffs are a way for the Red Cross to take a hard line stance. The Red Cross says they have had to suspend a specific red-cell program and that is why they are seeing less donations this year. The organization is hoping people will be in the giving spirit and donate blood this holiday season.
