Sowell Possibly Linked To 20-Year-Old "Strawberry Murders"

11-06-2009 12:12 AM EST | By ###Debbie Totten/gc
(Cleveland, OH) -- East Cleveland detectives are dusting off files from nearly 20-years ago, to see if there is a connection between several unsolved murders and the current gruesome scene going on over on Imperial Avenue. Police realized a string of murders in 1989, stopped suddenly when alleged serial killer Anthony Sowell was sent to prison on rape charges. Similar to what police are seeing now, the 1989 victims were all women who had issues with drug and alcohol. The police department has assigned a team of detectives to review the cold case murder files and hopefully get some closure on the what was called the "Strawberry Killings."
