Casinos Coming To Ohio

11-04-2009 03:35 AM EST | By ###John McDade/Tom Roberts/JQ Lawrence
(Cleveland, OH) -- It came down to the wire, but it looks as though Cleveland residents will be able to place their bets soon as controversial Issue 3 passed last night. The measure that would allow casinos to be built in Ohio's largest cities had an insurmountable 53-percent to 47-percent lead, with 91-percent of of precincts reporting at midnight. Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert and city leaders that backed Issue 3, including Mayor Frank Jackson, say they are eagerly anticipating the new jobs and tourism dollars predicted to flow from the 600-million dollar Cleveland casino -- set to be built across from Quicken Loans Arena. A pro-Issue 3 spokesperson said the promise of jobs and new tax revenue from the casinos secured last night's passage.
