Using Call Forwarding Features

Summary

Use Call Forwarding features with VoiceManager services. Call Forwarding features can be activated with a telephone (Telephone User Interface). Many features can also be configured through the MyAccount Web Portal.

Basic Call Forwarding

You can program your calls to ring at another number. Each time a call is forwarded your phone will emit one short ring. Although incoming calls are forwarded, your phone may still be used to make outgoing calls.
 
Turning On the Call Forwarding Service

  1. Lift the handset and listen for the dial tone.
  2. Dial * 72.
  3. Listen for the dial tone.
  4. Dial the number you want your calls forwarded. Enter the number exactly as if you are calling directly, such as 7-digit, 10-digit, or 1 plus the area code.

    Note: Your confirmation is a stutter dial tone followed by a regular dial tone to let you know your Call Forwarding feature is activated.
     
  5. Hang up to complete activation.

Turning Off the Call Forwarding Service

  1. Lift the handset and listen for the dial tone.
  2. Dial * 73.
  3. Listen for the confirmation tone, and then hang up the handset to complete deactivation.

Changing the Forward To Number

Turn off Call Forwarding by lifting the handset and listening for the dial tone, then:

  1. Dial * 73.
  2. Listen for the confirmation tone, and then hang up the handset.

    Result: Call Forwarding is turned off.
     
  3. Lift the handset and listen for the dial tone.
  4. Turn on Call Forwarding by dialing * 72.
  5. Listen for the dial tone.
  6. Enter the new Forward To number.
  7. Hang up to complete the change.

Call Forwarding Busy

If your phone is busy when a caller calls, the Call Forward Busy feature automatically forwards the caller to another number. You can turn the feature on or off, or change the forwarding number anytime.
 
Note: Cox Voice Mail automatically includes this service. However, Cox Voice Mail customers have only limited functionality for Call Forwarding Busy. If you subscribe to Cox Voice Mail, you cannot forward calls using this feature to destinations other than the pre-programmed Voice Mail number.
 
Turning On the Call Forwarding Busy Service

  1. Lift the handset and listen for the dial tone.
  2. Dial * 90.
  3. Listen for the dial tone.
  4. Dial the number to where you want your calls forwarded. Enter the number exactly as if you are calling directly, such as 7-digit, 10-digit, or 1 plus the area code.

    Result: When the phone is answered, your Call Forwarding Busy is in effect.
     
  5. Hang up to complete activation.

If the Forward To line is busy or there is no answer, do the following:
 

  • Hang up.
  • Within two minutes, repeat steps 1-4 above.

    Result: You will hear a confirmation tone to let you know your Call Forwarding feature is now working.

Turning Off the Call Forwarding Busy Service

  1. Lift the handset and listen for the dial tone.
  2. Dial * 91.
  3. Listen for the confirmation tone, and then hang up the handset.

    Result: Your Call Forwarding Busy is now off.
     
  4. Hang up to complete the call.

Changing the Forward To Number

  1. Turn off Call Forwarding Busy Service.
  2. Lift the handset and listen for the dial tone.
  3. Dial * 91.
  4. Listen for the confirmation tone, and then hang up the handset.

    Result: Call Forwarding is now turned off.
     
  5. Lift the handset and listen for the dial tone.
  6. Turn on Call Forwarding by dialing * 90.
  7. Listen for the dial tone.
  8. Enter the new Forward To number.

For security reasons, this feature is not available for IP Centrex and VoiceManager customers. 

Call Forwarding Remote Access

When you subscribe to Call Forwarding on your business phone, you may use a touch-tone telephone at another location to remotely change Call Forwarding on your telephone.
 

Remotely Activating Call Forwarding
  1. Dial your Access Number, see Call Forward Remote Access Phone Numbers.
  2. Listen for instructions.
  3. Dial your 7-digit business telephone number that has Call Forwarding services.
  4. Input your PIN
     
    Note: Initially your PIN is 1234, 9999, or the last 4-digits of your telephone number. You can change this PIN the first time you use this feature.
     
  5. Press *72. (Call Forwarding.)
  6. Dial the 7 or 10-digit telephone number you are forwarding to.
  7. Listen to instructions to confirm or change your forwarding.
  8. Once you hear the confirmation (stutter dial tone), your Call Forwarding is activated.
  9. After each input, you can press # to speed up the process.

Remotely Deactivating Call Forwarding

  1. Repeat steps 1-4, above
  2. Dial *73, listen for the confirmation tone, and then hang up.

Notes:

  • Use the appropriate access number, see Call Forward Remote Access Phone Numbers.
  • Call Forwarding (* 72) is the only service available through Call Forwarding Remote Access.
  • You cannot access Call Forward Busy (* 90) and Call Forward No Answer (* 92) via Call Forwarding Remote Access.
  • This feature should not be confused with Remote Call Forward, a business telephone feature that allows a customer who does not have a physical location/phone to have a phone number and have incoming calls to that number automatically forwarded to another number.

Selective Call Forwarding

With Selective Call Forwarding you can program your phone to forward calls from a special list of numbers to another number. When the feature is turned on, calls from numbers on your forward list will be re-routed to your forward-to number. All others will ring at your office phone as usual.
 
Using Selective Call Forwarding

  1. Lift the handset and listen for the dial tone.
  2. Press *63.
  3. Follow the voice prompts and press 3 to turn the feature ON or OFF.

Note: To add the last caller to your forward list, press #01#.
 
Entering the Forward To Number

  1. The first time you turn on the service, you will be asked to enter the number you would like your selected calls forwarded to.
     
    Note: After the initial set-up, the system will simply remind you of the current forward-to number.
     
  2. If the current number is correct, press 1.
  3. If you wish to change the current forward-to number, press 0 and follow the voice prompts.

Hearing the Phone Numbers on Your List

  1. Press 1.
  2. After the list is read, follow the voice prompts to exit.

Adding a Number To Your List

  1. Press #.
  2. Follow the voice prompts.
     
    Note: You may store up to 31 phone numbers on your forward-to list.

Removing a Number From Your List

  1. Press *.
  2. Follow the voice prompts to remove any or all numbers from your forward list.

Notes:

  • To hear instructions again, press 0.
  • You may press 1, 0, #, or * at any time rather than waiting for the voice instructions.
  • This service can work with Call Forward (all calls). Numbers on your preferred list will follow you to your Selective Call Forward number. All other calls will be routed to your regular Call Forward number.
