Setting up Music on Hold

Last Updated: Fri, 30 Aug 2013 > Related Articles

Summary

Learn how to set up Music on Hold for VoiceManager

Solution

Music on Hold enables a company to provide music or messaging when callers are placed on hold. Some feature packages also allow you to make and upload your own music selections.
This service can be used in conjunction with the Call Hold and Call Park features.

Benefits

Courtesy — Make the time that callers must be on hold more pleasant. Hearing music or a message assures the caller they have not been cut off.
Awareness — Advertise your product suite and service offerings.
Ease — Turn feature off and on with the click of a button.

Setup

1

From the Voice Administration menu, select the Services option.

2

Click the Music on Hold link.

3

Click Edit to modify your music selection for the entire company or group.

4

Check the box(es) for Enable music during Call Hold, Enable music during Call Park, and/or based on when you want the Music on Hold feature to play.

5

Click the System Defined Music radio button to use the Music on Hold file provided by Cox or click the Custom Music File radio button to upload a unique file.

If you select the Custom Music File, click the Browse button to locate and upload that file. The .wav file must use the CCITT u-law or a-law codec format.

6

Click OK if you want this media file to be used for all calls you place on hold or click Apply and the Internal Call Settings tab if you want to have a different media file used when internal calls are placed on hold.

When you activate the Music on Hold feature, callers that are on hold hear the media file selected by the Administrator, unless you have uploaded your own media file. In that case, your selected file plays.

7

Check the Use Alternate Source for Internal Calls checkbox to use a different media file for all internal
calls that are placed on hold.

8

Select the Custom Music File radio button to upload a unique media file for internal callers to hear
when they are placed on hold.

If you select the Custom Music File, click the Browse button to locate and upload that file. The .wav file must use the CCITT u-law or a-law codec format.

9

Click OK to configure the Music on Hold feature for all internal and external callers that are placed on
hold.
