Solution

Turning Closed Captioning On or Off 

You can turn Closed Captioning on and off directly from the Contour Remote Control.

Turn Closed Captioning On or Off by pressing the CLOSED CAPTION button on the Contour Remote Control.

To adjust the Closed Caption settings using the Cox remote control.

  1. Press the SETTINGS button.
  2. Use UP or DOWN Arrow buttons and Select Guide Options.
  3. Select Closed Captioning and make desired selections.

You can also access Settings by pressing the MENU button on the remote control and selecting Settings.

Adjust Closed Captioning on an HD Receiver

You can turn Closed Captioning On or Off and adjust settings such as text, language, and background using an HD Receiver.
 

These steps work for an HD Receiver, not a standard-definition (SD) receiver or stand-alone DVR.

Turn on Closed Captioning

  1. Press the SETTINGS button, then press the A button.
  2. Use the arrow buttons to scroll to the Language section. 
  3. Scroll to Closed Captioning and press the right arrow.
  4. Press the right arrow again and highlight the On option.
  5. Press the A button.
  6. Do one of the following:
    • Press the EXIT button. 
    • Use the arrow buttons to select settings for Closed Captioning Text or Background options.

Turn off Closed Captioning

  1. Repeat steps a through c above.
  2. Press the right arrow to highlight Off and press SELECT.
  3. Press the A button, then the EXIT button.

Adjust Closed Captioning Using a DVR Receiver

You can adjust the closed caption settings using a Cox receiver.

Turn on Closed Captioning

  1. Press the SETTINGS button, then press the A button.
  2. Use the arrow buttons to highlight the Language/Idioma preference
  3. Press SELECT.
  4. Scroll to Closed Captioning and press SELECT.
  5. Scroll to the On/Off option and press SELECT.
  6. Use the arrow button to highlight On and press SELECT.
  7. You are returned to the Options column where you can either:
    • Press EXIT to keep your settings
    • Use the arrow buttons to select Digital Service (or Analog)
    • Select from Automatic, Primary, Secondary, DTV CC 3, DTV CC, 4, DTV CC 5 and DTV CC 6 options
    • Press SELECT to set up Closed Captioning Text or Background options.

Turn off Closed Captioning:

  1. Complete steps a through e above.
  2. Use the arrow button to highlight Off and press SELECT.
  3. Press EXIT to activate your settings.

Adjust Closed Captioning Using a Cox DTA

Complete the steps based off of the action required from the table below.

Press the MENU button to access the Main Menu.

Press the UP or Down arrows to highlight Settings and press SELECT.

Use the table below to adjust settings options using the DTA.
 
Note: Closed Captioning must be turned on to access the Options Menu.

Set up for analog or digital channels
  1. From the Closed Captioning Menu, use the UP or DOWN arrow to highlight Analog Service or Digital Service.
  2. Press SELECT to highlight options.
  3. Use the UP or DOWN arrow to highlight the appropriate option.
  4. Press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Press the LEFT arrow to return to the Closed Captioning Menu or press EXIT to return to live programing.
Change the caption text size
  1. From the Closed Captioning Menu, use the UP or DOWN arrow to highlight Text Size.
  2. Press SELECT to highlight options.
  3. Use the UP or DOWN arrow to highlight the appropriate option.
  4. Press SELECT to confirm.
  5. Press the LEFT arrow to return to the Closed Captioning Menu or press EXIT to return to live programing.

Adjust Closed Captioning Using a Non-Contour Receiver

Follow these steps to adjust Closed Caption settings when using a non-Contour Rovi receiver.

Press the MENU button on the remote control.

Use arrow buttons and select Settings.

Use arrow buttons to select Closed Captioning and make desired changes.
