The Cox DVR Universal M7820 Remote Control is preprogrammed and locked at the factory to operate the cable receiver and interactive service provided by Cox.

However, the remote can be reassigned to operate another brand of cable receiver by unlocking the Cable ID Lock, entering a new cable code, and then locking the Cable ID Lock again

To unlock the Cable ID Lock, enter a new manufacturer’s code, and lock the Cable ID Lock again, perform the following steps:

1. Turn on the cable receiver.
   
   
2. On the remote control, press the CABLE button once.
   
   
3. Press and hold the SETUP button until the CABLE button blinks twice, then release the SETUP button.
   
   

4. Using the number buttons on the remote control, enter 9 - 8 - 2.
   
   

   Result: The CABLE button blinks four times, indicating that the Cable ID is unlocked.
   
   

5. Before continuing with this procedure, follow the steps in Program the Cox DVR Universal M7820 Remote Control for a TV, DVD, VCR, or Stereo Receiver to locate and enter the new four-digit code for the different cable receiver.
   
   
6. After programming the remote control for the cable receiver, on the remote control, press the CABLE button once.
   
   
7. Press and hold the SETUP button until the CABLE button blinks twice, then release the SETUP button.
   
   

8. Using the number buttons on the remote control, enter 9 - 8 - 2.
   
   

   Result: The CABLE button blinks twice, indicating the Cable ID is locked.
   
   

   All steps complete.
