What is the new URL for Cox Business Email?

Will the old URL, http://webmail.coxmail.com, continue to work?

For a limited time, Cox Business will redirect customers who use the old URL to the new url.

What is changing with Cox Business Email Enhancements?

Our Cox Business Email is being upgraded to include these new features:

  • Improved Security with stronger password requirements

How much do these enhancements cost?

Cox Business Email enhancements are provided at no cost to you.

Which Cox Business Email customers will receive these automatic enhancements?

The enhancements are automatic for all Cox Business customers with Cox Business Email mail boxes, including Cox Business Internet, Cox Business Internet Home Office, Cox Optical Internet and Cox Web Hosting customers.

Why are we upgrading Cox Business Email?

At Cox Business, we strive to continually enhance our product and service offerings to our customers. Cox Business is upgrading our Email platform, Cox Business Email, to ensure we continue to offer industry leading products to our customers.

What happened to CoxMail?

Cox Business Email is the new name for our email web interface. CoxMail is the old name.

Did my mail box size and attachment size change?

No, you still have 2 GB of storage per email mail box and a 30 MB maximum message size.

Will existing customers’ service be affected during these enhancements?

You may not be able to send/receive email during the time the enhancements are implemented, but the implementation is occurring during nighttime hours.

Can you tell me about the new enhancements to fight spam?

In addition to the current Spamblocker options, you now have options to block all messages from e-mail addresses or domains you specify. You can choose to have all the blocked messages automatically deleted, or sent to your spam folder.

Did my Spamblocker (junk email filtering) options change?

No, you still have three options to choose from:

  • Delete incoming junk mail automatically
  • Move junk mail to the WebMail Spam folder for later review
  • Tag junk email with -- Spam – in the subject line and deliver to your Inbox (this is the default setting)

Will I have to change my User Name (ID) or Password?

Your user name (ID) will not change. Your password will not change as long as it meets the stronger password requirements. If your password does not meet the new password requirements, you will be asked to change your password upon initial login to the new email system.

What are the password requirements?

Please go to Cox Business Email login URL (https://email.coxbusiness.com) and click on the link "Need Help Signing In?"

What is going to happen to my addresses (contacts) and folders?

If you have contacts (addresses) and folders stored on the old email system they will be moved automatically during the enhancement implementation.

Will these enhancements change any of my desktop client (ex. Microsoft Outlook) settings?

These enhancements are for the Cox Business Email web interface only. Your client settings will not change.

Which browsers does Cox Business Email web interface work with?

Cox Business Email currently works with:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6,7,8
  • Mozilla Firefox 3.0, 3.5, 3.6
  • Apple Safari 3.x, 4.x, 5.x

Other than a supported browser will I need any other piece of software to run Cox Business Email?

Cox Business Email runs on Adobe Flash.  You will need Adobe Flash Player version 9.x or later.  Go to www.adobe.com to download the later version of Adobe Flash Player.

If I want to set up Cox Business Email to POP (or download) my email to my desktop client (such as Outlook) where do I find the set up instructions?

Set Up instructions are provided at http://support.coxbusiness.com, click on Data Support, and then click on Email.

How do I purchase more Cox Business Email mail boxes?

To purchase more Cox Business Email mail boxes please call Cox Business at 1-866-456-9944.

Where can I find the Cox Business Email Customer Control Panel (Administrative Console)?

Go to https://control.coxmail.com to access the Customer Control Panel.

Where do I go to find out more about Cox Business Email features?

IMAP Support

What is IMAP and Secure IMAP?

IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. It is an Internet standard language used to receive email. Unlike the most common Internet standard for receiving mail, Post Office Protocol (POP), IMAP is designed to leave a copy of email messages on the server. This allows email messages to be viewed and managed on multiple devices (i.e. laptop, desktop, mobile phone, etc). Secure IMAP simply requires the use of a more secure connection between the device/software and the mail server to enhance security.

Does Secure IMAP allow customers to leave a copy of Contacts and Calendar on the server?

No. Secure IMAP is only for email messages.

What is the benefit of Secure IMAP?

Secure IMAP allows you to access email from whatever device you want and from remote locations.

What are the server and port settings for IMAP?

Incoming Mail Server: imap.coxmail.com, Port 993
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.coxmail.com, Port 465

Do customers have to move to Secure IMAP?

No, customers can continue to use POP for receiving mail.

How do I configure IMAP settings for Cox Business Email on my mobile device (ex. Blackberry, IPhone, or Android based mobile phone)?

You can find the instructions on support.coxbusiness.com to set up your mobile device to access Cox Business Email.

SMTP Authentication

What is SMTP Authentication?

SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. It is an Internet standard language used to send email. SMTP Authentication requires that a user provides a valid username and password to authenticate before the user is allowed to send email.

What is the benefit?

SMTP Authentication helps to minimize issues sending email using email clients (i.e. Microsoft Outlook) on networks other than Cox. For example, using your laptop in a coffee shop. It helps to ensure email sent from the Cox network is from legitimate customers and not spammers, therefore reducing SPAM.

Do I have to use SMTP Authentication to send Email?

It is recommended you use SMTP Authentication to send email for the reasons stated above.

What are the email client (ex. Microsoft Outlook) settings for SMTP Authentication?

Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.coxmail.com, Port 465
You must authenticate with your full user@domain.com and email password.

What is Domain Name email?

Domain Name email allows you to access your email using a specific domain name (you@yourcompany.com) instead of using you@coxbusiness.com for example. This allows you to brand your email address with your business. With Cox Business Email, you can have at least 10 @coxbusiness.com mail boxes or 10 @yourcompany.com domain name email boxes at no extra charge.

Note: Cox Business can register your selected company Domain Name for an additional charge.
