Learn how to configure Microsoft Office 2003.
Solution
POP vs. IMAP
POP is the recommended incoming mail server for those who primarily use a mail client (i.e. Outlook, Windows Mail, Thunderbird, etc.) to receive email. However, if you also plan to regularly use a smartphone (i.e. Blackberry, Iphone, Android, etc.) or the Cox Business Email web interface to receive mail, then IMAP should be used. Instructions for both are below.
From the Tools menu, select Email Accounts.

Select the Add a new email account radio button. Click Next.

Select the POP3 radio button. Click Next.

Enter the email account details and server information.
- Incoming mail server (POP3) is pop.coxmail.com
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP) is smtp.coxmail.com
- User Name is the customer’s e-mail address
- Password is the customer’s password
Click More Settings

On the Outgoing Server tab, select My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Select the Use same setting as my incoming mail server radio button.

On the Advanced tab:
- Incoming server (POP3) is 995
- Outgoing server (SMTP) is 465
- Select This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) for the incoming and outgoing server.

Verify the information. Click Next.

Click Finished.
Configuring IMAP
Steps 3, 4 and 6 of this procedure will need to be configured differently if using IMAP. Use the steps below instead if you are configuring a smartphone.
Select the IMAP radio button. Click Next.

Enter the email account details and server information.
- Incoming mail server (IMAP) is imap.coxmail.com
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP) is smtp.coxmail.com
- User Name is your email address
- Password is your password.
Click More Settings.

On the Advanced tab:
- Incoming server (IMAP) is 993
- Outgoing server (SMTP) is 465
- Select This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) for the incoming and outgoing server.
