Data Support

To check the network settings in Windows XP do the following:

1. Click Start and select Control Panel.
2. If in Classic View, double click on Network Connections.  If in Category View, click on Network and Internet Connections and then click Network Connections.
3. Right click on Local Area Connection and select Properties.
4. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.
5. For dynamic IPs, verify that Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected. For static IPs, verify that you have the appropriate IP and DNS address supplied to you during installation and skip to step 11.
6. Click Advanced.
7. The IP Settings tab should say DHCP Enabled and have a check mark for Automatic Metric.
8. The DNS tab should have Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes selected and check marks for Append parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix and Register this connection's addresses in DNS.
9. The WINS tab will have a check mark for Enable LMHOSTS lookup, and Default should be selected.
10. The Options Tab should only display TCP/IP filtering.
11. Click Ok , click OK again, then click OK one more time before closing the Network Connections screen.

All steps complete.
