Troubleshooting the URC 8820 Remote Control

Solution

 

ProblemWhy the problem may occurTo correct the problem...
Device buttons do not blink.The batteries may be dead.Replace the batteries in your remote control.
Device keys blink but remote does not control my equipment.You may be pressing more than one button or pressing the button for a different device.Press only the correct device button while pointing the remote at the equipment you need to control.
I tried all the codes for my brand of device, but none work.N/ATry searching for your device code or go to remotes.cox.com for model–based search.
I want to switch the volume control from AUX back to TV.N/A
  1. Press and release the AUX button.
  2. Press and hold the Mute and Select buttons at the same time until the AUX button blinks twice.
  3. Release both buttons.
  4. Press and the Vol+ button.
  5. Press and release the TV button.
My TV turns off when my cable box turns on.Cable box and remote are not synchronized.Manually press the power button on the front of the cable box to synchronize the device and the remote.
My remote control does not operate my cable box, for example, turning it on and off, channeling up and down.Your remote control is preprogrammed to work with either a Cisco cable box or a Motorola cable box.
  1. Press the Cable button and try to turn your remote on or off.
  2. Did it work?
  • If yes, the problem is resolved.
  • If no, then identify the brand of cable box by looking for the manufacturer’s label on the box.

If you have a Cisco cable box:

  1. Press and release the Cable button
  2. Hold the Swap and A buttons at the same time until the Cable button blinks twice.

Note: The Swap button is at the bottom of the remote in the Picture–in–Picture section.

  1. Release both buttons.

If you have a Motorola cable box:

  1. Press and release the Cable button
  2. Hold the Swap and B buttons at the same time until the Cable button blinks twice.

Note: The Swap button is at the bottom of the remote in the Picture–in–Picture section.

  1. Release both buttons.

Tip: You can find these steps on the back of your remote.
