Using Features of the Cox Remote Control URC 8820

The design of the URC 8820, based on customer feedback, makes it easier and more efficient to use. You can perform many functions with one hand.

All–On powerTurn on and off all of your programmed devices by pressing the Power button
  1. Aim the remote control at your devices.
  2. Press and hold the Power button for two seconds and then release the Power button.
  3. Continue to aim the remote at your devices until all of them turn on or off.

Note: If a device turns ON when the others turn OFF, manually turn OFF that device from its front panel so that it is in sync with the other devices.

Back lightingThe URC 8820 remote control provides a back lighting feature that makes it easy to use in dim light. You can also disable the back lighting feature, if you do not need it.
  1. To activate the back lighting feature, press and release the Light button.

    Note: The back lighting will turn off after 10 seconds of inactivity. To reactivate the back lighting, press and release the light key. Turning off the light feature when it is not required will help extend the battery life.

  2. To disable the back lighting feature, press the Light button for a few seconds.
Volume, or audio system  control

Program an audio device to control the volume.

Note: By default, the volume control is programmed to operate the TV.

  1. Make sure the AUX button is already programmed to your audio device (such as a stereo or surround sound receiver) which is connected to the cable box or TV. You can use the quick steps or the auto-scan steps, which ever works best for you.
  2. Set the AUX to control volume: Press and hold the Mute and Select buttons at the same time, until one of the device buttons (TV, DVD, AUX, Cable) blinks twice.
  3. Release both buttons.
  4. Press and release the VOL - (volume down) button.
  5. Press and release the AUX button. It will blink 4 times.
  6. If your audio device features multiple inputs, such as DVD, Radio, and MP3 player inputs, you can also set the AUX to switch volume control from one input to another. Press and hold the Mute and Select buttons at the same time, until one of the device buttons (TV, DVD, AUX, Cable) blinks twice.
  7. Release both buttons.
  8. Press and release the CH - (channel down) button.
  9. Press and release the AUX button. It will blink 4 times.
    Result: After you press and hold the POWER button to turn ON all programmed devices, you can at any time:
  • Press the AUX then VOL button to control volume of the audio device. 
  • Cycle through the audio inputs of the surround sound or A/V receiver programmed in step 1 and step 6 by pressing 1, then 2, then 3, and so on.
  • Press the TV button once to use the TV audio (if you haven't already programmed the TV button, use the quick steps or the auto-scan steps).
  • Press the Cable button once to change TV channels.
